5 friction points killing your conversion rate

You don't necessarily have a traffic problem. You may have a friction problem: those small obstacles that make an already-convinced visitor give up. Here are five, in order of frequency.

1. Your offer isn't clear within 5 seconds

The test is simple: a stranger lands on your homepage. Within five seconds, can they say what you sell, to whom, and why you? If the answer is fuzzy, they leave. A clear promise above the fold beats ten paragraphs further down.

2. The call to action is hiding

Too many buttons kill the button. A page should have one primary action, visible, repeated at the right points in the journey. If your visitor has to hunt for "how to contact you", you've already lost half of the interested ones.

3. The form asks for too much

Every extra field drops the completion rate. Ask only for what's strictly needed to start the conversation, and keep the rest for later. A contact form is not an administrative file.

4. Nothing reassures

  • No customer reviews, no logos, no concrete numbers.
  • No human face, no proof that you really exist.
  • No answer to the obvious objections (price, timing, commitment).

Trust is built with proof, not adjectives. "Leader" convinces no one; "240 clients supported since 2021" does.

5. Mobile is an afterthought

Most of your traffic is on mobile. If your buttons are too small, your text cramped and your page slow to load on a phone, your mobile conversion rate sabotages your average — even if the desktop version is perfect.

Fixing these five frictions needs neither a redesign nor a budget: just looking at your site through the eyes of a visitor in a hurry. Start with the one that affects the most people — usually the first.
